(divided) Society Portraits 2018 -
For this series I look to Hogarth and Gillray for inspiration. Since 2016, the UK has become vitriolically divided for what, exactly? To what end? Nobody knows. Some weird clock is ticking and the 'will of the people' must take an almighty piss over anything and everything. We must prepare, not for halcyon days, but for food shortages.
This overnight decent into farce, where everyone has lost their heads and teetering on the brink of hysteria, makes me feel strangely at home. I thought it was only me who lived like this, not a whole country - I therefore feel well-equipped to join the discourse.
Orwell once said that when you reach fifty you have the face you deserve. I feel that when you reach international basket case, you get a hat.
